CHAPTER 3

Rome pulled up in the driveway of his house with its cheerful lights shining brightly among the snow-covered bushes and framing his house. He hoped Fillion liked it—he wanted this to be a magical experience for his new boy because he wanted his new boy to become his permanent boy. That pull he’d originally felt when he’d been at the gatherings had turned into a full-blown calling, and tonight had proven that they had chemistry out the wazoo and it certainly wasn’t one-sided.

“Here we are.” He shut off the engine and turned to Fillion, giving him a smile.

“Oh, wow. It’s beautiful…” Fillion stared, eyes big as saucers.

“I’m glad you like it. I do love how the lights brighten everything up for the early nights of winter.”

“It’s amazing, Da-Daddy.” That little hiccup proved how worried Fillion was.

He hummed, though, and rubbed Fillion’s arm, letting the dear boy know how much he’d enjoyed hearing it. “Thank you, boy.”

Fillion smiled at him. “Should we go in? I’d love to see it.”

“Absolutely. I’m eager to show you.” He got out and went around to open Fillion’s door for him.

“Thank you.” He got a warm, wondering little smile.

He let Fillion in, turning the lights in the hall on. The place smelled like pine, all his decorations up. He was glad now he’d done it, having Fillion to share them with. “I just need to put the leftovers in the fridge.”

“Okay. Do I just stay here?”

“No, come with me. You can leave your bag here, though—we’ll grab it when we’re headed upstairs.”

“Okay. I can do that.” Fillion followed him, close and steady.

He’d missed having a boy, and it felt good having Fillion here with him. The boy was nervous, but more than that, Fillion was interested in him.

He put the leftover feast of fishes into the fridge, then made a gesture to show off the room. “So this is the kitchen. I wanted a lot of counter space, so the island made of sense. And we can eat there, too.” It was clean and inviting and spacious.

Of course, giving a tour of the place wasn’t on the top of the list of things he wanted to do right now.

“It’s lovely—nice and bright.” Fillion’s fingers trailed over the countertops.

“Let’s go upstairs to the bedroom. I can give you a proper tour tomorrow morning.”

“Okay. I’m a little nervous.”

“That’s understandable.” He took Fillion’s hand and squeezed. “A little bit excited too, though?”

“A lot excited. I—I’m still a little hard.” Fillion’s pretty eyes just shone.

“Thank you for sharing, boy. I’m still eager myself.” He led Fillion back to the front hall and grabbed his boy’s bag, then he led the way up the stairs. He was happy it was his habit to make the bed every morning because it meant his room was ready for his new guest.

Once there, he flipped the switch that turned on the bedside table lamps, the light dim but warm.

“You have a big bed.” Fillion glanced around with apparent fascination. “So cozy.”

“I like to have a lot of room.
