I shot dread in the head, took the bread and the lamb spread.

Chapter 17

Brooklyn

I’ve been in front of the psychiatrist’s office since 2 pm. It’s now 4:45 on a Friday afternoon.

I’m parked on the street across. My seat is fully reclined in case anyone, like Brooklyn or the psychiatrist, walks out and recognizes me.

Eve has called me multiple times, but after the sixth time she’s given up. My phone hasn’t been called for two hours and I have the entire evening open to do what I please to whomever I want.

I’ve enjoyed the quiet. The privation without The Board.

Slowly around 4:55 the psychiatric staff begin to file out, one by one. Several women in nice clothing and heels, a few men in button up shirts and dress pants. But no one that looks like the redhead I just met.

It’s 5:02 and still nothing. Several lights inside have been turned off. It’s a long building with multiple office windows. Someone in scrubs just walked out and locked the front door. It’s not Brooklyn. It’s some bitch in blonde.

Is she not working today? I knew I should’ve been here at 7 am to watch everyone file in. Just as I’m losing hope, just as I turn on the car ignition to drive away, several small cars drive out from the back parking lot.

There she is!

A person with small shoulders and a freckled face with her windows down. Her curly red hair is waving out of the vehicle in the breeze, shining under the setting sun.

Time to find out where she rests her head, to where she calls home. So I can plan my attack, at her moment of most vulnerability.

She drives fast. She’s hard to tail. Several left turns and multiple rights later, and she’s barely slowed down once entering a residential street. Does she know that I’m following her?

She’s just pulled into a small driveway in front of a small house. I hold back about half a block to park alongside a curb. Two small children, as she mentioned, run outside to hug her. What a quaint family.

About four hours later, and I haven’t seen much activity coming out of her miniature abode.

The lights are on, but the blinds are closed. No one has walked out since she’s walked in.

I’m considering going in but it wouldn’t be prudent. Although if The Board were present I’m sure they would be pressuring me to commit the crime tonight, even with the children inside.

It’s not that I have an aversion to hurting the underage, it’s that their screams would surely alert the neighbors and ensuing authorities.

It’s going to be a long night because I don’t want to leave and miss watching her go to work. I need to monitor her from when she wakes up, however early it may be. And if I miss her then I won’t know where to find her if she doesn’t go to work tomorrow.

It’s Saturday morning. It was a long uncomfortable night. The neighborhood is now waking up.
