Grab Your Gun

Faster than any gunslinger, you snatch up your revolver and yank it free, ramming the barrel under her chin. Heifara freezes, feeling the cold steel pressing against her skin.

“Don’t move,” you growl.

She glances down into your eyes. “You wouldn’t…”

“Want to try me?” you say, the cocking of your revolver deafening in the tense silence.

She seems to consider it for a brief moment, then slowly shakes her head.

“Good,” you say, reaching up and making a quick sign in front of her face.

The arcane symbol swirls before Heifara’s bespectacled eyes, a puff of arcane sleeping powder breathing into her face. The holstaur’s nostrils flare, then her eyes roll back, and like a lead weight she collapses to the floor.

You sigh, holstering your revolver again before bending down and dragging her against the railing. You pull out a strip of cord from your pocket and tie her arms behind one of the bars, then peel off one of her own socks and shove it in her mouth, gagging her securely. It won’t hold her forever, but so long as no one comes down this way anytime soon, it’ll hopefully keep her occupied until you finish your job here. And judging by the comments of the gangsters at the garage, visiting Heifara doesn’t sound like it happens often. Turning from the insensate scientist, you make your way to the door and open it with a creak, slipping through and deeper into the lair of the Newgates…
