You want someone who will support you in handling your fear, not rescue you from it. Often a friend who lacks this understanding will feel compelled to become a rescuer. Such a person will want to wrap you up in cotton wool, protecting and sheltering you from the dreaded fears of life. The mother who tries to protect her child from the everyday risks in life by doing everything for him is only depriving the child of learning to care for himself.
