After everyone finishes eating, there’s a shift in the air. The chatter starts to die down and everyone turns to watch as six couples, including Alpha Darren, walk toward the tree line. They immediately start stripping their clothes and my eyes widen. I turn away to give them their privacy, but Vin says, “Watch.”

I turn back around in time to see a bright flash, and the sound of bones cracking and reforming reach my ears. The next thing I know, where humans once stood are now twelve beautiful wolves. Most of them are gray and white mixed but they all have distinguishing features whether on their backs, paws, or snouts.

Each of them tip their heads back in unison and howl. Their combined song sends shivers down my spine, and then they take off, yipping at each other’s heels and chasing one another through the trees. A pang of longing shoots through me watching them run so freely like that.

A small whine grabs my attention and I turn to find Emma also staring after them. “Are you okay, Em?”

Her eyes don’t leave the wolves. “Yeah, I’m just taking everything in. Do you think they would mind if I joined them?”

Carter gives her an assessing look and I’m fairly sure there’s some jealousy behind it also, since unmated shifters can’t shift. “I don’t think they would mind at all.”

“Are you sure?” she asks quietly.

“We’re a pretty accepting pack. Besides, Darren is out there with his mate. He’ll keep everyone in line.”

“Is that okay with you, Sadie?”

“Absolutely. Go,” I wave her on when she still looks uncertain. “Go catch up to them. It’ll be good for your wolf to run with some of your kind.”

Emma smiles and with one last glance back at us, she takes off, shedding her clothes. Like with the others, there’s a bright flash and the sound of bones realigning before a small all gray wolf appears. She darts into the trees, striving to catch up with the others.

The sense of camaraderie in the air lingers long after their forms dissipate. Ash and Carter stand up a moment later. “We’re going to head in for the night, Sades. Will you be all right with Vinson?”

“Of course. Have fun.” I wiggle my eyebrows. She knocks her fist into my arm playfully before she takes Carter’s hand. Right before they disappear from sight she turns around and gives me a thumbs up while he’s not looking. A laugh bursts from my lips. That’s typical Ash for you. Hopefully, I won’t have to go looking for her later only to find her spread eagle under Carter.

Still scarred from that.

Vin lays a gentle hand on mine pulling me back to the present as he entwines our pinkies together. Even the barest brush of our skin is enough to electrify my senses, bringing them to life. Warmth travels from our connected touch up and down my entire body but I’m also exhausted from training with Elian and it’s not long before a yawn racks my body.
