After school, Elliott and Claire dropped me off at home. My mom was already there, getting ready to take Sandy to the vet to get checked out.

“I am coming with you,” I told her while walking into the kitchen.

As I entered the kitchen, I saw John there. My heart was racing with fear. Questions raced through my mind frantically. How did he beat me home from school? His sudden appearance felt like an intrusion in my safe space.

“Hey Bella, how was your day at school?” John questioned in a casual tone. Making the topic of conversation feel unsettling.

“Fine. You?” I responded flatly as I grabbed a banana from the counter.

“Great. All my students seem to be great. Especially you.” He said winking while nudging my arm.

My mom snatched her keys from the keyholder, and in a hurry, I grabbed Sandy’s leash and walked her out the front door with heavy feet. As we were driving to the vet, I started to wonder why John is showing up a lot more. He was creepy.

We arrived at the veterinarian's office, and they checked Sandy to ensure that she was a healthy dog. The vet had scanned her for a microchip to see if she had a family, but she didn't. The vet mentioned to keep an eye out for signs or posters just in case she did get out and we just happened to find her. I didn't want Sandy to have a home, as selfishly as I sounded. She has been amazing ever since we found her.
