CHAPTER 9

Beau

Beau realized that it was time to face his growing feelings for Luke. He had kissed Luke a few days ago at what felt like the perfect moment, and it was the best kiss he had ever experienced. He swore it was like fireworks went off in his chest because his heart thumped so hard and fast.

Of course, he wanted to kiss Luke again. Truthfully, he wanted to do more than kiss him. He couldn’t deny the desire that coursed through his body like fire when he looked at Luke. He just hadn’t found the right opportunity to make another move on Luke yet. Derek had been invited to a sleepover with his friends, so Beau had to meet the parents and see the house to make sure that Derek would be okay staying over for one night.

It was a big step for Beau. He had a lot of trouble trusting other people, especially with kids. After he talked to the parents and to Luke, he felt better about letting Derek stay over for one night this Friday night. Today was Thursday, so he wanted to plan something nice for tomorrow night since he and Luke would be alone.

“Beau!”

Beau tore his eyes away from the cartoon television show that he and Derek were watching.

“Coming!” he called out before rising to his feet and ruffling Derek’s hair. “Keep enjoying your show, bud.”

Derek nodded, not even shifting his eyes from the screen as he remained entranced.

Beau smirked to himself as he headed down the hallway to his bedroom, stepping inside to see Luke with a laundry basket full of clothes in his hands. He gave Luke a pointed look as he crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe.

“I told you that you didn’t have to worry about doing chores,” he insisted. Helping out with Derek was his only job, and he was damn good at it. Derek adored him at this point, and Beau wasn’t looking forward to breaking the news to Derek that he didn’t need a babysitter anymore.

Luke shrugged as he set the laundry basket down on the bed.

“I really don’t mind helping out more. I’ve basically made myself at home,” he joked as he faced Beau. His eyes quickly swept over Beau like they did often.

Beau didn’t mind the brief admiration. Plenty of people had shown interest in him, but Luke was the only person who interested him.

“And I’m glad you have,” he replied as he took a step closer. “Better be careful. You’re making me want to keep you here.”

Luke seemed to swallow hard, his cheeks reddening a hint. He then drew in a breath and tilted his chin up in a bold manner.

“You’ve given me plenty of reasons to want to stay here,” he professed. “Unless you can think of one more?”

Beau saw the opportunity that he had been looking for, and he refused to miss it when he wanted Luke so badly. He shut and locked the door behind him, feeling his heart start to race as he stepped toward Luke.
