“Can’t you control your mate?” Raven groused and grumbled as they travelled through the trees to McCarthy’s cabin.

“No,” Cassius and Stavion answered in unison.

Kendall snorted and bumped his shoulder against Jory’s. With his best friend there to help, their combined screams had been enough to send Raven tumbling ass over head clear across the carpet. Raven might not be very happy, but Kendall would be laughing about it for days.

Oh, he so couldn’t wait until Raven found a mate of his own. Part of him hoped Raven would have a bouncy bundle of energy for his mate who kept him constantly on his toes. Another part of him thought it would be hilarious if Raven found himself mated to a big alpha with a superiority complex. Now that would be something to witness. He’d even make popcorn. Then sit back and watch the fireworks.

“Is that it?” He moved closer to Cassius as they stepped through the tree line and pointed at a lone cabin. “Why is it the only one out here and so far away from everyone else?”

“Flynn is having it built for him and his mates. It’s not completely finished yet, though. He has to have the timers and window coverings installed for Malakai.”

Stavion took Jory’s hand and pulled him closer. “He’s letting us use it for McCarthy until we can find a way to reverse the spell. It seemed like a good idea to keep him isolated from the rest of the coven. Apparently, he’s getting worse the longer he’s kept away from Malakai—whom he still believes to be his mate.”

“And this Jonas guy who’s guarding him is really his mate?” Kendall felt sad for the Enforcer. Jonas had to live every day with the man he loved—all while his mate desired another man and constantly pushed him away.

“Where are they sleeping if there aren’t any plates on the windows?” Raven asked, interrupting Kendall’s depressing thoughts.

“We’ve taped blackout curtains over the windows, and they’re sleeping in the closets.”

Before anyone could respond to that, the front door of the cabin opened, and a very large man stepped out into the porch light. “Who’s there?”

“You didn’t call first?” Jory asked Stavion, his tone dripping with indignation. “Smooth, babe.”

Stavion announced himself and moved Jory behind him. “Stay here,” he said quietly.

Kendall knew what was coming next even before Cassius nudged him back. “Stay with Jory. I’ll call you over in a minute.”

“I thought Stavion trusted Jonas?” Kendall asked Jory as he watched their mates and Raven approach the front porch.

Jory shook his head. “He understands what Jonas is going through. He might feel sorry for him. He never said he trusted him.” He chuckled under his breath. “They’re a little overprotective, huh?”

Tilting his head to the side, his eyes never leaving Cassius’s back, Kendall thought over his friend’s question. “Yes, they are, but I like it. No one has ever cared about us or put us first. Even if they can be a little suffocating at times, they mean well.
