I donât think I can really stress this enough, but when I was working in the City I was just surviving. And we have been convinced that this is the norm. To merely survive. To spend over half of our week so far removed from what we were built to do. But to live without passion is to sleep with your eyes open. I believe that to live in service to your destiny is to live in service to your passion. We are all put here to do something. And now, as I approach fifty years old, it feels like my life is starting over again. Suddenly Iâm posing for Vogue and Menâs Health. People around me repeatedly say that I had to be at that protest because only I would have done what I did. I canât speak for anybody else, but it really was the only thing I could do. It was within me, just as your story sits within you, waiting for you to rub curious fingertips against the pages of your passion and eventually be brave enough to jump into the first chapter of your new wholesome life. Nobody can write the rest of your story except you. Now that I work in health, it feels as though I do so much more than survive. I wake up to half the money I was previously earning, but ten times the fulfilment. I have been blessed in abundance to be able to love my new career.
When I look at my younger two daughters today, I see a lot of myself in Sidéna in particular. I donât think she will stick with anything that she isnât in love with. She has the ability to become an actor, dancer or something in the arts. I can also see her in choreography or drawing. Sheâs a born creative. I would be surprised if she got deep into academia, but sheâs still got some years to find out. As for Kendal, Iâm not quite sure yet. If there is a role as a professional Roblox player, it is made for the lockdown edition of her! I reckon by Year 9 Iâd like them to have a rough idea of what they might want to do as a first career. Iâll try not to push them too hard down the route of academia. That goes for you, too, my grandchildren. I hope passion finds you early on and carries you into its future before anything of less interest gets a grip on you. The world is becoming so much bigger than a textbook and I trust that your intuition will lead you to know how to navigate it better than a fifty-year-old.
