The next morning I woke up to the sound of Drew banging on Eddie’s front door. I rolled off the couch and opened it. I had a terrible headache and the light from the sun didn’t make it any better.

“Hey, babe,” he said, leaning in to kiss me on the forehead.

“Hi,” I said heading back to the couch.

“You ready to go?”

“Yeah.”

Over the next few weeks, our relationship seemed to grow. Drew was starting to trust me more as I was able to get things done the way they were supposed to be. The mornings went smoothly and dinner was always ready when he got home from work. We would eat and cap the night with some “candy” or whatever he had on hand. Everything between us was perfect until my sister sent me a text message that said:

Arrest warrant out for Drew, missed court date, Mom and Dad said be careful.
