The Legend Comes Out
As impressive as the one sided battles were going, Big Town civilians were not happy about their women and children being hurt and killed because of the apparent lack of sense from their appointed leader, Nuttybomb. It still seemed that a war with Wivvaflow was ill timed, considering the eminent threat of attack from the Invadas coming from other planets. Gun fire across the river from Wivvaflow found a Big Town orc every day now. Unfortunately, when a seven year old boy was killed, this day was the day that the citizens of Big Town couldnât tolerate one more senseless loss of one of their own.
Nutty awoke to find a smoke filled room. Dark brown paper, which covered the windows, was engulfed in flame. Red chaos danced upward, throwing cinders and hot ash, igniting the rug and furniture. The fire shot up the walls and ran along the ceilings. In a matter of seconds, the room was extremely hot and not breathable.
The door opened with a loud crash that could be heard for several blocks from the outside. From Nuttyâs point of view, the sound was muffled by the thick particles and smoke, as well as the noise of crackling flames that were devouring his surroundings. Nubbs burst in. His face was a pleasant surprise to Nutty, who was to his feet and heading toward the door at this point.
Nutty had been sleeping in the back room of Guthrakâs machine shop. The shop was close enough to the school which was currently set up as a hospital. This made getting back and forth a short trip. Also, it was at the corner of the Crossroads, the major junction between Wivvaflow to the west and homes to the east. The mines were to the south and the road out of town to Gravestone was to the north. It was as convenient a place as any for Nutty to catch some shut eye and dash out to any location quickly; it was centrally located.
Nubbs stumbled into the burning room and fell to the floor. Nutty made his way toward Nubbs through the fire which was hot enough to ignite the flammable blanket that hung across the room and separated the two. Nutty pulled the blanket down in a hurry. The heat was more than he thought he could stand. He couldnât breathe, his eyes burned, and his nose ran. He gasped for air as he bent down to grab Nubbs.
Nubbs was unconscious. This was peculiar to Nutty. He thought that surely he would have succumbed to the smoke and heat before Nubbs. Nubbs just entered the room and fell down. Nutty was in the room for a longer amount of time.
Then, something occurred to Nutty. The dim light which shined through the open doorway was just bright enough for Nutty to see blood on the back of Nubbsâ head. Nubbs wasnât stricken by the effects of the fire, but he had a wound before he came in. Nutty grabbed Nubbs by the arm and dragged him toward the door.
