Since the events involved in the calculation of E sink and are highly cross correlated, it is very difficult to model the accurate characteristics of E total. But we can compute the upper bound of E total by using Eq. (3.15) and Lemma 3.5.

3.7.2 Accuracy Evaluation

In this section, we validate the correctness of theoretical normalized energy consumption by comparing the analytical results with simulation results in different duty cycles.

Figure 3.7 shows the analytical and simulation results of the total normalized energy consumption in dB as a function of T s and T on for a network with 10 nodes and traffic arrival rate λ = 0.02. This figure shows a good matching of the analysis results with simulations, which further demonstrates the correctness of the mathematical analysis.
