Below the article was a picture. Freely clicked the picture, staring at it in stunned silence. He had seen this guy before he left for Spring Oak and thought it strange. Once in his New York City neighborhood during his morning jog and then again at the airport. The guy put off a presence, and Freely remembered thinking how odd it made him feel. Now looking at Apollos Drake smiling at him from the photograph, Freely sat back a cold shiver running through his body. None of this made sense, but he was certain it was the same sinister man he had seen before.
Freely picked up his cell phone, dialing the number quickly and waiting until he heard the voice recorded greeting on the other end. He left a message, determined to get some answers.
âI want to know who Apollos Drake is, and I want to know why the hell I am really here. You need to call me.â

John Freely sat in a restaurant with a beautiful ocean view, with Rebekah across from him. The sun was setting, and the view was breathtaking. The sunâs last rays were streaking across her face and hair, and he thought she looked even better than the view. She turned to look at him to say something, but he couldnât hear her. He could see her mouth moving but couldnât make out the words. He was becoming very agitated. The restaurant seemed to have grown increasingly loud within seconds. He got up to move his chair closer to hers and glanced out to the water.
âWhat is that? Do you see that?â
He looked at Rebekah to see if she could see anything he was, but she only stared at him with a smile on her face. It seemed no one was experiencing what he was. The noise in the restaurant was deafening. He covered his ears and looked around. Only he was being bothered by the sound. He thought it was the combination of the music and conversations, dishes clinking, but realized it was coming from the ocean. He stood, while Rebekah looked like a beautiful mannequin, stone still, not blinking, not talking, only smiling. He looked back to the water and saw the beast coming from its depths.
âWhat the hell is that? Is that a dragon?â
No one on the beach was running. They seemed to want it there. The dragon snarled and roared. Freely didnât want to take his hands off his ears. Blood dripped from its mouth, and its eyes were the darkest he had ever seen. Evil. Pure evil. He knew he needed to tell everyone to flee. He looked at Rebekah, screaming at her to get up and run. He couldnât hear himself. She couldnât hear him. She only sat smiling.
âREBEKAH, WE HAVE TO RUN!â
She didnât respond. He reached out to grab her, and suddenly it wasnât Rebekah. He fell back into the table behind him and onto the ground. He began crawling backward while keeping an eye on what was before him.
