Chapter 7

Winny

The morning light filtering in through the living room window blinds awakens me. I’m wrapped up in a cocoon of warmth, and I don’t want to move. However, the unfamiliar ache in my muscles is making me want to stretch my arms. I could do that if they weren’t locked into a tight vice of strong, muscular arms.

My eyes shoot open. Oh my God. Brad. The things we did last night come rushing back into my sleep-fuzzed brain.

“Hey, beautiful. It’s about time you woke up,” he says with a too-sexy smile. He rubs his nose along mine and places a chaste kiss on my lips. “Not that I didn’t enjoy watching you sleep.”

“How long have you been awake?” My voice is groggy, and I probably look like death. Yet, he looks and sounds as delicious as ever.

“A while. Don’t worry. I didn’t mind waiting for you.”

“Would you like some breakfast? I have some eggs and sausage, I think.”

The warm weight of his palm settles on my breast as he runs his thumb in a circular motion around my nipple. “There’s something I’d like to eat for sure, but food wouldn’t be involved.”

My face heats at what he’s insinuating. Did I really let him do that to me last night? I’ve never let anyone do that. I turn my head into his chest so he can’t see my embarrassment. “Well, that’s not what I’m offering this morning,” I mumble into his chest.

“I love the way you blush. It kinda turns me on.”

“Apparently, everything turns you on,” I grumble.

“No, sweetheart. Just you.” He sighs into my hair. “As much as I’d love to stay for breakfast, I have a meeting to get to. My boss will have my ass if I don’t show up.”

“Didn’t you say you took three weeks off?”

“I did, sort of. My asshole boss is making me do a few things while I’m here. That was the only way I could get him to agree to let me take such a long vacation. Plus, I’m up for a promotion, so I can’t afford to say no to anything right now.”

“Oh. Okay.” The disappointment I feel is instant and unexpected. “Well, I have to go to work soon, anyway.”

“At the ice-skating rink? Is that why you were there the other day?”

“Yeah, I do lessons there.”

“That’s a great part-time job for you since you’re no longer ice-skating professionally. Are you looking for something full-time? I’m guessing Old Man Gerald isn’t able to give you enough hours?”

Skating is the last thing I want to talk about with Brad. I’m still raw when it comes to the topic anyway, and the fight I overheard with his brother is still fresh in my mind. So, I don’t correct him and tell him I’m a full-time manager and trainer at the rink. I also don’t tell him that Gerald’s trying to sell the place and that I’ve been trying to talk him into holding off until I could get enough for a down payment. Brad wouldn’t understand nor care about those dreams, anyway.
