Chapter 10

I was woken up on Christmas morning by some joyous cheers that were only slightly muffled. I smiled instantly because I knew the reason my warrior women were as happy as they were was. While they were sleeping, I’d gotten back up to place all our presents under the tree, exactly like my mom had done for years when I was a kid.

I knew they were adults, but it was their first proper Christmas celebration, and I’d always said I’d do everything I could to make it memorable. So, presents under the tree, a half drank glass of milk and a plate with a few cookies and crumbs all around to pretend Santa Claus had truly come to deliver the presents while we were sleeping.

Of course, none of my women were that oblivious to my shenanigans, but they clearly appreciated the lengths I’d gone to in order to make their first Christmas enjoyable.

“James, come look!” they shouted from the living room.

I quickly got up and jogged out of the bedroom to see them all gathered around the tree. The five of them were wearing their special Christmas pajamas we’d gotten a few days ago, and they looked adorable.

“What’s up?” I asked once I caught up with them.

“Look, presents!” Sid pointed at the mountain of wrapped gifts under the tree.

“Did Santa really come?” Amber asked, but despite the innocence in her voice, she was grinning like the Cheshire cat, so I knew she didn’t actually believe in an old fat man’s fake existence.

“Apparently so,” I pretended to be surprised, which only made them laugh. “Who wants to open some presents?”

“Oh, yes, please, I do,” Amethyst answered eagerly from where she was already sitting in front of the tree.

“Let me make some hot chocolate first,” I announced and headed for the kitchen.

When I was a kid, my mom would always make us some homemade hot chocolate that we drank while we opened the presents. She always made sure we had plenty of marshmallows to go with our hot drinks, and I was grateful for everything she’d ever done for me, so it was only natural that I wanted to do the same for my women.

Once I was done with the hot chocolate, I placed the steamy hot cups on a tray, added a large bowl of marshmallows, and went back to the living room.

“Here we go, all set.” I grinned and handed each of my women a cup before I sat down beside them. “Who wants to go first?”

“I think you should, master,” Lapis said, and my four other women shared their agreement.

“Yes, you should.” Ruby nodded. “You’ve done so much for us, it’s only fair you should be the first one to open a present.”

“Alright,” I chuckled. “If I must, then hand me a present.”

While Ruby rummaged through the pile of presents, Amber leaned against me.

“Thank you for this magical experience.” Her lips brushed against my ear as she spoke, and I shivered from her hot breath. “I can’t believe you say your world doesn’t have magic.
