Chapter Fifteen

Courtney

Maybe Sienna is the last person I should involve in this when as of now, I only have her word and my helpless infatuation for the woman. Then again, I don’t know who else to call, to trust. My parents, who live on the other side of the country, can’t do anything about this situation. I vowed not to involve Jade in anything dangerous. Will might reconsider giving me a job if he knows the whole truth. He already graciously agreed to postpone for a day.

I’m running out of options. Silly of me to think they could let me start over here with Oliver. But realistically, what can they do?

I can’t think straight. I’ve been up all night, unable to sleep, watching Oliver as if someone was going to sneak into the room and take him from me.

Rory made it very clear that he wants to take both of us home. That’s what he says, anyway. I know he wants Oliver above all, and he’s aware that I’m not going to leave him, at least not freely.

Sienna isn’t likely going to change all of it, but I’m already feeling calmer after hearing her voice. Another point of view, someone telling me that I’m not going to lose, not again.

I am far past wondering if Rory and Ciara are, if Tommy might have been involved in something illegal. I’m not ruling out going to the police, though I’d hardly know what to tell them. I tried to run. It didn’t work. Now I have to fight, and Sienna is the best ally I can think of. Also, I need to see her again.

Sienna knocks on my door exactly seventeen minutes after we’ve hung up, and she brings two large coffees and a bag of pastries.

“You’re a lifesaver!” I jump to my feet and kiss her, since Oliver is only just starting to stir. “I didn’t dare call room service.”

“Good choice. When I said no one, I meant no one.”

She returns the kiss, but only briefly. Her demeanor is beyond serious, and I’m beginning to understand that it’s not just because of my own situation.

Sienna puts down breakfast on the coffee table after she has assured herself that the door is locked properly. She even gazes outside the window, but we’re on the tenth floor. I don’t think there could be danger from outside…I can’t think about this now.

“Courtney, we need to talk. There’s been an incident at one of our resorts. Someone drove a car into the lobby, spray-painted on the walls.”

My hand goes to my mouth.

“Was anybody hurt?”

“Nothing too serious. We were lucky, this time, but it’s a damn mess. Courtney, did Rory mention anything…”

“No.” The first sip of coffee sits heavy in my stomach now. “He didn’t say anything to me about vandalizing your hotels, and I can’t believe you came here to ask me that.”

“Courtney. Please.” A bit of that ice vanishes from her voice, and the woman I thought I knew, was getting to know, is back.
