CHAPTER SIXTEEN
The next morning, I opened my eyes to see light spilling through the windows in Kristyâs room. We were so caught up in each other we forgot to close the blinds when we passed out. I looked down at myself and all my clothes were still intact.
Phew. I managed to stop us before I ventured into uncharted territories.
Maybe I wasnât ready yet like Kristy had predicted or perhaps I felt like what we were doing was wrong, and not only because I had a boyfriend. My Christian upbringing was emerging. Was I going to hell like all the gays that my pastor warned us about? And how would I even go about coming out to people. What would I tell them?
Even thinking about coming out felt weird. It was obvious I liked females, but was I completely gay? My whole life I assumed I was straight for the most part. I mean occasionally I questioned my sexuality, but who didnât? I did sometimes stare too long at an attractive female like Erin or couldnât get a cute girl on a TV show out of my head, but I never admitted to myself that I liked women until Kristy arrived in my life. Now my whole perspective of myself had changed.
Also how was it fair that I would now have to come out to people? No straight person ever had to do that. Why couldnât we live in a world that let us love whomever we wanted to? A world where we didnât have to justify our attraction? A universe where it would be normal to date anyone, no matter their gender or identity. Wouldnât that be the dream world?
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I was going down a rabbit hole. Maybe my phone would take my mind off things? I got up off the bed and rummaged in my purse and found more text messages from Zack.
I thought we would see each other more once I asked you out.
