GETTING HELP WHEN NEEDED
Roofing isn't something that can be done by just one person all of the time. There will be a need at times for assistance, so it's a good idea to know who to turn to. Once there are some tips learned about how to find and hire people, it can make this kind of work a lot more simple. Go over the advice here and it will be easy to know how to proceed.
Try to speak with family members or friends that may be able to assist. Even if they're not too good with certain aspects of the roofing, they can help with spotting or even just carrying materials to the rooftop. With family, they may do the work for a meal or for not very much money so it can be a great way to save. However, it's important to pick someone that's in good shape and also old enough to be safe while they work.
There are people that can be recruited with the help of a classified ad that's placed online or in the paper. Just figure out how to place an ad somewhere that indicates what the pay would be and what kind of roofing work it is. Then have a contact number or email address and make sure to check missed calls and emails daily. When someone is hired through this method and the posting is online for the job, be sure to erase it so people don't keep trying to email or call.
Of course, a roofing company can be called to send some help but they may not like having to work with the homeowner on the project. Generally they do all of their own work, and that's what they're licensed for. Make sure to do some research on the company to be aware of whether or not they are good at helping customers. Get quotes from various companies and then compare each one to figure out who is offering the best deal.
When paying anyone to do any kind of work, it's going to have to be recorded properly. For family, friends, or those recruited through ads it may be as simple as giving them some cash and calling it good. However, if it's a company or someone with some kind of a contract, make sure to keep records of what was paid and when. Try to pay with a check so that it's able to be tracked. Then it will be impossible for a company to say that they weren't paid if they really were.
Ask anyone before they do the work what kind of roofing jobs they've had in the past. That allows for them to explain what they can do so it can be decided on what their job will be. Never hire people for good money that can't show that roofing is something they're good at. Sometimes it's best to start the pay out kind of low until that person can prove they're worth more and should get more work.
