BIG IDEAS IN THE CHAPTER

Women feeling compelled to act likeable is not only women's problem but a business problem: Measure the ‘cost to business’ of women holding themselves back at workplace.

Sampann may be a better framework than perfectionism: Women tend to be ‘Sampann’ (complete in all roles), resulting in have-it-all, do-it-all goals, causing feelings of inadequacy. This could be a better research hypothesis than saying, women lack confidence because they are necessarily perfectionists.

Shaming is a hard-wired tool of choice to keep women in check: Women not only get shamed by men but also routinely shame themselves and each other.

De-link narrative on women professionals with their personal roles as mother and wife: It alienates women who are not mothers or married, and unduly attaches the identity of all professional women to success in their personal roles.

Women needn't have it all, nor do it all: Don't merely enable women to balance home and work, enable men to contribute to household and caregiving responsibilities.

Men and women are not same, neither are women and women: Discussions need to be deeper and more deliberate, recognizing the groups within groups.

Boys can no longer be boys: Conversation on gender equality must include how men's roles and behaviours evolve at work and home.
