Chapter Eleven

Digger

HE GLANCED at Texas, the wide grin on the man’s face making him regret this whole thing already. Not that he had much of a choice. All he had to do was get through the next hour without strangling Texas.

“So,” Texas said, wagging his brows. “How’s Matt?”

Digger groaned and walked away from Texas, though he wasn’t surprised when the man simply followed. They were going to the same place, after all.

“Seriously, though.” Texas fell into step with him. “We haven’t heard from him in forever. We figured it might be because you were having a fuck fest, but still.”

“Remind me to make sure Matt never tells you anything,” Digger muttered.

“Why?”

He levelled Texas with a deadpan look and received a cheeky smile in return.

Oh, the bastard knew why, alright.

“Matt’s fine,” he said and started walking faster.

Matt was more than fine. He was pretty damn sure Matt was the one. There was no doubt he was in love with Matt. None.

His heart went all crazy when Matt looked at him and he wanted to spend every second wrapped up in him. He just wanted to be near him all the time.

“I know we kinda set you up after the whole kidnapping thing,” Texas said. “But if you hurt him, Sawyer will hire Kai to assassinate you.”

Kai was the assassin who’d been sent to kill the club’s doctor, Steel’s brother. He’d taken a shining to Steel and had helped Doc and his girl out of a jam. He was pretty sure Steel would have a coronary if Kai showed up again, though that was apparently the least of his worries.

Digger turned his head slowly, brow raising.

Texas shrugged, then said, “I can’t do it. Killing a brother is against the bylaws.”

“Let’s just get this over with,” he muttered.

“We have to wait for an hour so we might as well talk.”

Digger grunted.

Texas sighed but then his face lit up.

“Tell me what you like about him,” Texas said with what sounded like genuine curiosity in his voice.

Why was he even entertaining the idea of answering Texas? Oh, right. Because it was about Matthias.

“Fine. I’ll start,” Texas said. “He has a great laugh.”

Digger’s lips lifted into a smile all on their own.

Matt did have a great laugh. When he was around people he was comfortable with, he had the kind of laugh that just drew you in and left you with no choice but to join in.

“Sometimes I look at him and I’m just blown away. He never ceases to amaze me. He really knows something about everything.”

“Yeah, he’s awesome to be paired up with on trivia night,” Texas said with a smile.

“I bet.”

“He thinks he’s fierce and, in some ways he is, but mostly he’s just a cinnamon roll. He’s not a pushover but sometimes he’s way too polite for his own good.”

“Tell me about it,” Digger grumbled.

Matt could fight his own battles. He knew that. It didn’t stop him from wanting to fight them for him.

“He doesn’t open up easily,” Texas said, a smile spreading on his lips.
