Chapter 11

After we had agreed on the plan, I transmogrified into my disguise, left Xander’s house, and walked to the closest intersection where I turned right. At the first shadowy doorway I could find, I glanced around to make sure no one was looking at me before ducking into the darkness. I instantly teleported outside the city. After materializing and making sure no one had seen me that time, I teleported to the woods where my friends were waiting. After they screamed and nearly attacked me with swords, they calmed down.

I transmogrified into my villager self. “I thought you were going to build an underground shelter?”

“We decided just to wait,” Swagger said. “If you weren’t back by nightfall, we would have built one.”

“Anything happen while I was gone?”

Claire shook her head. “Just been sitting here hoping you hadn’t been captured or poofed.”

“I can hear the deep concern in your voice,” I said sarcastically.

“What’s happening? What’s the plan?” Swagger said.

I explained the plan and how we are going to meet Xander at a crossroads some distance away before traveling to a harmonite mine.

“Freight-hauling travel cubes?” Swagger said. “I don’t like the sound of that. They sound slow.”

“I can probably craft a smaller travel cube while the rest of you are harvesting harmonite,” Zekours said. “Now that I’ve made several, I know which materials are needed, all of which appear to be plentiful in this dimension. We could attach the larger travel cubes with some sort of chain and increase the speed of the three travel cubes as a whole.”

“That’s a good idea,” Claire said. “And, if we had to, we could abandon the freight haulers and all get into the faster travel cube and get away.”

“I’m impressed, Zekours,” Swagger said reluctantly. “Maybe you really are a reformed glitch.”

I raised an eyebrow. “So, coming up with that idea is what makes you think he’s not evil anymore? I don’t understand how your brain works.”

Swagger laughed. “Coming from you? I’ll take that as a compliment.”

I rolled my eyes. “Come on, let’s get to the crossroads. We can teleport there and then wait for Xander.”
