Chapter 14

After Xander was taken away by the Rainbow Creeper and the Noble Dark One to assist Zekours in his construction of travel cubes, I asked Claire, Emma, and Tina to join me and Sotalach to discuss which powers I should select.

“Mind if I pick you up?” I asked Sotalach as I pointed at the strange black cylinder.

“Sure. Just keep the cylinder vertical if you would. I get dizzy otherwise.”

I picked up the cylinder and kept it as vertical as I could manage. We followed Tina as she found us a quiet room in which to discuss my dilemma.

“I might be biased, but I think you should keep teleportation,” Tina said.

“Of course,” I said. “That’s an easy choice. I’m also going to keep my vibe sensor. It has come in handy more times than I can count.”

“Maybe you should get a mathematics power then,” Emma said with a giggle.

“That’s what I keep you around for,” I said with a scowl.

“Okay, so teleportation and vibe sensing,” Claire said. “I guess the only decision left is which creatures you can transmogrify into.”

I tapped the black cylinder to get Sotalach’s attention.

“Stop that,” Sotalach said, sounding annoyed. “I am paying attention to this conversation.”

I chuckled. “Do I have to choose individual creatures for the remaining power slots or can I have universal transmogrification as one of my powers?”

“Nice try looking for a loophole, Jimmy,” Sotalach replied. “But I’m afraid the wafer thin amberite power card only has enough storage space for two specific transmogrification … um … recipes.”

“I should keep the form of the Noble Dark One. That would really tick him off.”

“You can’t do that,” Claire said. “That’s mean.”

“I guess. What should I pick? Obviously, I want to choose something powerful to use when we confront Xander’s Client, but I have a lot of options … three or four at least.”

“You should keep the Warden power,” Tina said. “It seems pretty powerful.”

I nodded. “It is, but the Warden’s inability to see without using its sculk sensors worries me. In a daylight fight, the slight delay in seeing the environment might just be a little too slow. If this so-called Client is as powerful as Xander says, I’m not sure such a delay is advisable.”

“What about the form of Mieriale?” Claire suggested.

I shivered at the thought. “She’s intimidating and all, but without an amberite weapon, I don’t think inherently she’s very powerful.”

“Maybe we should go to the beta dimension and search for the rumored deposits of amberite in the beta dimension Nether?” Emma suggested. “Make some powerful weapons and maybe some more power cards.”

“There’s not enough time for that,” Sotalach said. “If Xander is correct, we could have bounty hunters arrive in the next few days. Besides, because of the damage Xander did to Jimmy’s body, not much more amberite will fit inside of him than the power card.”

I thought for a moment and then said, “I know, I’m definitely keeping the power to transform into an ender wraith. It’s totally OP and uglier than a silverfish.
