Chapter 12

Early the next morning I stood with Emma and the Ender King on the wall surrounding Capitol City. The sun was just beginning to peek over the hills to the east, beginning to color the sky. I watched as three dozen endermen, each with one of KindHermione’s player volunteers and either a Glitch Guardian or Dretsky bodyguard in tow, teleported to positions along the main road leading to the city. In all, just over one hundred allies were taking positions for the ambush.

Before they had departed, the Ender King told them not to spring the trap until the entire enemy force had entered the kill zone. “But, if the enemy is stretched very thin, you can spring the trap once my wife and Esmeralda are in the middle of it.”

The soldiers were told to form groups of six for the ambush, meaning there would be eighteen groups. One in each group was given one strand of rainbow-colored rope. They were told that if they were the group to capture Esmeralda or Queen Meredith, who being possessed by an evil soul would attempt to flee by teleportation, they should immediately wrap the rainbow-colored ropes around their wrists which would prevent such escape.

As I waited for the now departed troops to get into position along the road, the three redstone engineers came running along the wall. “Give us the other souls. We’re done with the four additional bodies,” said Redstone Tortoise.

Emma and I pulled out the bottles holding the souls. “You sure you all want a redstone body?” I asked the souls. “Even if it looks like a player?” The souls all answered in the affirmative. Emma and I handed over the souls.

“Thanks,” said JediJedf.

“Yeah, we should have them connected to their new bodies before lunch,” said RedstoneSteve190.

“Yeah, um, thanks guys,” said Emma. They smiled at her and rushed back to their workshop.

It had been ten minutes since the soldiers had teleported from the city. I turned to the Ender King. “I guess I’d better get going.”

He nodded and put his hand on my shoulder. He looked me in the eyes, a very serious expression on his face. “Jimmy, you’ve already saved my daughter. Now, if we can rescue Queen Meredith from Esmeralda, you will have helped save my wife. I already owe you a debt I can never repay and if our plan comes to fruition, the debt will only increase.”

I had to say, I felt a bit emotional. “I’m sure you’d do the same for me. We’re friends, right?”

The King nodded his head. “Forever.”

I smiled. “It helps that I’m an honorary ender prince, too. That means we are family as well, right?”

The Ender King yanked his hand away from my shoulder. “Don’t make me regret bestowing that honor upon you any more than I already do.”

I chuckled and turned to Emma. “Well, I guess I’ll see you later today when I return with the prisoners.”

Emma bit her lip and looked worried. “How are you going to convince them to attack the city and bring the Queen with you?”

I shrugged.
