We had been fishing for about twenty minutes, Brayden having caught about a dozen fish and I having caught about four, when we heard a ruckus on the hill behind us. We turned around and saw a strange contraption upon which was seated a player wearing shorts and a T-shirt, but no armor other than a diamond helmet. The contraption on which he sat had a wheel the front and a wheel in the back. There was a seat in the middle attached to a frame and two bars sticking out over the front wheel which the player held onto with his hands. It looked like he was pushing something with his feet lower on the frame. Pedals? His feet kept spinning around and around as he rode the contraption down the hill at breakneck speed.

“What do you think that is?” I asked Brayden.

Brayden squinted his eyes at the contraption in the distance. “I don’t know. It kind of looks like a skinny mine cart that you can sit on. But there’s no storage area.”

We watched as the player on the contraption rode further down the mountain. At one point he rode up a rock and launched into the air. He came down on the two wheels and kept riding.

“Whoa! That was pretty cool,” I said.

We continued to watch as the player made it to the base of the hill and then rode over to us before stopping. “How you guys doing?” the player said.

“Okay, I guess. The fish are biting,” said Brayden.

“What is that thing you’re riding?” I asked.

“It’s a mountain bike. We have these in my world. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to craft one in Minecraft and I think I finally figured it out.”

“What do you do with it?” I asked.

“You just ride it around. It’s fun. You can go up and down mountains and do jumps and stuff,” said the player.

“Mind if I try?” I asked.

The player stepped off the mountain bike and handed it to me. “Be my guest. It takes a little getting used to though.”

I sat on the seat and put my feet on the pedals. I started to pedal, but I only moved a couple of feet before I lost my balance and the bike tilted to one side. I nearly fell to the ground before I put out my foot and stopped the bike from falling.

Brayden laughed. The player smiled but didn’t laugh out loud. I looked back at them, especially Brayden, with hate in my eyes. “It’s hard. I’m going to try again.”

I stood up and sat on the bike. This time, I pushed off the ground to get some momentum. I was wobbly for a bit but I kept pedaling and was able to ride the bike in a straight line. It was pretty fun, I suppose, even though I’d rather teleport, but it was okay. Still, compared to surfing it was a little boring. I rode the bike around and handed it back to the player.
