Day 49 – A Few Minutes Later

While we were awaiting word about the success of the villager chimera transmogrification experiments on the four volunteers, we continued our weapons practice. Biff joined us, practicing with a sword. A couple of times he transformed into a zombie and tried to use his sword, but it was difficult for him to move it with any sort of precision while in his zombie form.

“Guys, I’m starting to think choosing to be a zombie may not of been the best military option. I realize it was the safe way to go since I was the first transmogrification volunteer and it was the easiest recipe. And, it is cool that I’ll be able to sneak around at night and be a spy and all that stuff, but it is very difficult to use a sword. I wouldn’t be able to defend myself, even from a noob.”

“I think you just need to put on a helmet and some armor. Once you do that, you’ll be just like those armored zombies we learned about in history class. They can even walk around in the sunshine,” said Emma.

Biff’s eyes grew wide. “You think so? That will be cool.”

Emma trotted off to find some armor and came back within a couple of minutes with suit of diamond armor that would fit Biff’s zombie form. Biff transmogrified into his zombie version and then we put the armor on him. He pulled the sword out of his inventory and began to slash it through the air.

Biff smiled a smile of missing teeth and rotting gums and said, “It’s working. I can’t manipulate the sword as quickly as I can when I’m in my villager form, but it’s much better. I think I could actually defend myself if I had to.”

I smiled. “Gee, Biff, I think you’re probably cooler as a zombie than as a villager. Maybe you should just stay one forever.”

Biff shook his body and changed back into a villager. He walked over to me and punched me in the shoulder. It really hurt. “Don’t ever say that again. Being a zombie is cool and all, but being a villager is how I spawned. I wouldn’t change anything about myself.”

Had Biff been listening to motivational speakers or something? That was a lot of confidence boosting self-talk there.

“That’s right, Biff. You’re perfect just the way you are,” said Emma, not a hint of sarcasm or amusement in her voice.

Biff nodded his head. He was about to say something when a deep bovine voice behind us said, “Hey guys! It’s me. I’m back!”

We all turned around and saw Thomas the wither cow standing in front of us! We all shouted our greetings and then I asked, “Where have you been? Did you find some cows you could hang out with? I’m glad you’re still alive.”

Thomas’ wither skull smiled a spooky smile and he said, “Yeah, I found herd pretty quickly after I left your squad. At first the cows in the herd were
