“Not so fast,” Scott says when I throw open the door and go to exit the car. The morning sun is dawning, and I have school in a couple of hours. I’m exhausted. I hurt everywhere, and fresh bruises litter my face and body.

Scott gets out of the car with Jared close on his heel. I stare after them as they walk up to my front door and enter my house.

What are they doing?

Scott pockets his gun and collects the jacket he left here earlier. “I’m off.”
