I didn’t see Asmodeus the rest of the day once I woke up. I could tell he’d been laying with me while I was sleeping because the other pillow and the spot beside me were warm, but when I opened my eyes, he was gone.

I swallowed thickly, rubbing my chilled arms. I wrapped the blanket tighter around me, wishing there was some kind of warmth in this room. I knew my demonic side had kept me warm even in freezing temperatures, but I had assumed Hell would be warm no matter what.

But my teeth were chattering.

“I want to go home,” I whispered, tears springing to my eyes. I sobbed, wishing I had my mother’s strength wrapping around me. I felt lost inside. There was an entire half of my soul missing, and I wasn’t sure how to function without it, even though it had been cruel and horrible.

I stood from the bed, my knees sinking to the ground, still too weak to hold myself up. I pounded my fists on the floor and screamed, clutching at my head.

“I want to go home!” I screeched.

Suddenly, the ground disappeared from my feet, and everything went dark.
