Chapter Seven

~ Jamie ~

I seriously didn't know if I was the right man for this job. Yes, I probably had more experience in the mortal world than Abigor did, but assisting him in tracking down those books seemed a little out of my wheelhouse of knowledge.

Still, these people—these demons—had saved me and Belle, they had given us a safe place to live, and they had given me my own demon. If they asked for my help, they would get it.

"Okay," I started as I stared at Abigor. "I'm going strictly on my knowledge of film in the mortal world, but do you have some sort of spell or glamour or something you can use to hide your appearance?"

Abigor's dark eyebrows lifted. "You want me to hide my appearance?"

"Me personally, no." He looked pretty damn hot. "But the horns will throw people off unless it's Halloween." And maybe even then. "You need to look more human. The red eyes need to go as well."

Those were hot, too, but pretty much any human we ran into would not think so. They would either be terrified or think Abigor was strung out on drugs. Not the impression we wanted to give.

"I was a West Gate guard. Until you summoned me, I had never been to the mortal realm. I am unfamiliar with anything that could mask my appearance, but I am sure Lord Hades knows of something."

"You're going to need it."

I was sure of it.

"Let's go talk to Hades. He should be in his study right about now."

I nodded and then followed after Abigor. I knew Belle was with Herby, but I needed to ask him to watch her just a little longer. I wasn't sure how long we were going to be, but it couldn't be more than a few hours.

Right?

How long did these things take? Considering I wasn't exactly sure what we were doing beyond looking for books, I didn't have an answer for that question. Only time would tell.

Abigor led me to a room I had not been in before. It was big, almost double the size of the main room of Abigor's quarters. I wasn't sure what I expected when we stepped inside, but it wasn't this.

The room looked like an everyday average study. There were wooden bookshelves that went up to the ceiling all along one wall. They filled to the brim with books.

Off to the side of the bookshelves were two cream-colored wingback chairs sitting across from a matching couch right in front of a fireplace on another wall.

A large dark oak desk sat directly across the room from all of them. There was even a computer on the desk.

There was internet in Hell.

Who knew?

"This is Lord Hades's study?" I asked.

"It is," Lord Hades said as he glanced up.

"This isn't what I had pictured." I was finding that to be true about a lot of things in this new world.

Hades chuckled. "It used to look a bit different, much more like I am sure you imagined. Herby decorated it when he came here.
