Chapter 9 â Rise of the Dark-Lighter
The demon Abraxas emerged from the darkness of the hallway. He watched Malachi, who was distracted. Abraxas smiled at him. He had his own ideas for the boy. Muerte had called for help too late, the dark demon thought to himself.
Reaching out, he moved behind Malachi and placed a hand on his shoulder. âYou are my prize now. I think you just need a change of attitude. Muerte may have given you power, but she has the remnants of good in her. Maybe now, you need a dose of evil to clear your head a bit.â
As Abraxas took hold of Malachi, the darkness poured into the boy. His eyes turned dark as he radiated the power bestowed in him. Malachi had no way of fighting what was thrust upon him. The darkness filled his body, as the darkened veins of his neck continued to grow onto his face. His transformation was complete. The last of his humanity faded from the surface. Abraxas had done his job well.
Malachi, still reeling from the transformation, turned slowly and looked the demon in the face. He shook his head, as the dizziness cleared. For a moment he did not know where he was. His memory returned in flashes as he felt his body shake.
âWho are you?â Malachi asked.
âI have been called many things in my day, some call me Abraxas, others the Black Hat Man. Regardless, I am the man who just set you free from your contract.â He smiled at Malachi.
âI donât understand. You mean I can leave here?â
âYes, in time. But for now, I need you to stay and play out your role as the Angel of Deathâs apprentice. When I am ready, I will send for you. Then you will have the privilege of exacting revenge on the one who enslaved you.â Abraxas Smiled at the boy before turning to leave.
Malachi was confused at what had happened, but he knew one thing for sure, he had more power within him that he knew how to handle. He walked down the corridor and found Muerte waiting inside a portal room. He walked to her, trying not to let on what had happened. He was sure he had to hide his secret as long as possible,
Muerte pointed into the image of the cemetery. You need to finish what you went there for. The job is not done. Malachi obliged her and prepared to step through the opening. He watched as he saw Daniel again. A sinister smile came across his lips. This time he was prepared for the White-Lighter.

Elizabeth watched from the angel realm. She studied the Dark-Lighter as he once again spread his black mist across the cemetery. She wanted to intervene, but to do so, would go against the rules of good and evil. She could not break the balance of power. If anyone was to fight this fight, it would have to be Daniel. Elizabeth lowered her eyes as she had watched this scenario over and over again in her head, to see all the possible outcomes.
