A day and a half into his trek, Bob met forty of Cainâs servants on the path.
Within minutes, each of them lay lifeless along the trail.
After the carnage was over, Bob kneeled down and examined one of the servants. It seemed to him that this had once been a creature of life, just like his friends back in Fairfax. But now the servant looked as though heâd been burned alive. His eyes were solid white, with no life even as Bob had fought him. What stood out even more than this was the symbol on the servantâs forehead. It looked like a lower-case âyâ with an arrow on the tail, and within the upper part was an upright âv.â
He stood and, surveying the carcasses, saw that each of the servantâs foreheads bore the same mark.
Small rifts of dust roiled from the path as he pushed on north.
CHAPTER EIGHT
The End of the Trail
Three days had passed since Bob left Fairfax.
He was relaxed, and glad to look and feel like himself again as he stood looking northward from a cliff. Below lay the city of Silver Ghost beyond the forest about a half mile away. He headed down the cliff toward the forest below and was met by twenty more of Cainâs servants. The servants got the best of Bob in the beginning, but his madness changed that. His horns, blades, and red eyes reappeared. Bob killed the servants walking toward him by slicing, stabbing, and mutilating them in half. He upper-cut some of the servants, which made the blades enter under the chin and exit out the tops of their skulls. Bob walked away from the bodies, his anger burning inside him as he neared Silver Ghost.
When he finally arrived at the entrance of what he thought was Silver Ghost, there were no servants in sight. Bob had no fear or worries. Only anger remained within him as he entered the city. With ease, Bob killed the two guards at the southern gates, and then walked through the front door of the palace. He moved to the left and continued his killing spree by slaughtering nine servants that were eating in the dining room, using his blades. Afterwards, he climbed a flight of concrete stairs. The people at the top that came rushing at Bob seemed to be normal people. He mutilated them just the same, and they dropped to the carpeted floor.
Bob walked on with determination for revenge. He went down a hallway to his left that overlooked a courtyard outside. He entered a door at the end of the hall. Inside was a large room, similar to a conference room. He saw no one else there, so he made his way back down to the dining room, went outside, and left through the gates he had first entered. He continued walking north, losing sight of the place he had realized was not Silver Ghost after all.
After walking for a while, he approached another village. The village was made of stone that looked like silver.
