My brother came back and with the air of someone who did not wish to speak of what had happened since he had left, leaving me to worry what had occurred with his guide family. I could only imagine given my own troubles convincing Remy and getting him to trust me, and he had at least some foundation of the charter and myths. Alcibiades’s guides had no clue who they truly were.

But it also left him in a very protective temperament, and he went to work on finding out all Tom and his men knew, along with what to change and take away. We then relocated them along with Bass and some of Zack’s team until the actual mission could happen. They would forget all about Remy’s location and even an estate in France.

Which also left Alcibiades and I with an enormous amount of backtracking to do and minds to adjust to clean out the crumbs that had led Tom and his team to the conclusion Remy was Calypso. If one could figure it out, more could. That was the last thing we wanted.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry to be a burden,” Remy repeatedly apologized when we returned back from one quick trip or another. He was a bit fragile after Angeline’s death, especially after we had the service and laid her to rest. I truly was concerned for him as he did not seem to stop working, sleep, or rest—much less eat or do much besides drink coffee.

And I knew I was not the only one worried from the way everyone seemed to watch him like a hawk while making the necessary repairs and refurbishments on the unused wing of the manor. I knew carpentry and could move faster than others but was not up to speed on the latest ways to do things as I had built the stable in the way I knew.

Which worked out well as Rita, Emma, Barbara, and her whole team helped stain and seal the stable along with make it ready to transfer the horses. I learned early that I had many more students that wanted lessons. I would gladly give them as my own demons were kept at bay when I was immersed in nature and what I knew.

I did try to intrigue Remy in the choosing and installation of the new vaults, but he wanted no part of it. I did not understand why until Matteo pointed out that Angeline had betrayed him for everything hidden under the manor after all… Then I felt foolish for not making the correlation myself.

He did at least approve the changes to the floor plan as we would not add these vaults into the catacombs but instead build out through the cold storage and wine cellar. It was a lot of work and heavy lifting, which Zack, Ben, Alcibiades, and I mostly handled while Zack’s team and the other children helped with the wing repairs and wiring up sensors… Along with other things I did not understand.
