"Did you hear? Mrs. Davis is here."

"No wonder everyone is so tense right now."

"I heard she’s trying to set her son up on another date."

Most of the comments about the company's owner went over my head. Jack had expressed a lot of concern about her being in town, so I promised to keep my head down and work on our current project to ensure it was flawless.

However, hearing that she was setting him up on a date sent a dark wave of jealousy shooting through me. I liked to think that Jack wasn't interested in anyone but me, although we hadn't actually spoken about whether we were actually dating. I knew he’d never go out with someone else behind my back. So why was I feeling so nervous? I could still see how he wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea of being with a man. If Jack started seeing a woman, would I eventually lose him?

It hit me hard that I was fully committed for the first time in my life. Moving from one lover to another had been my thing, but the thought of not being with Jack now feels unsettling. I really liked him and hoped we could be together for a long time. He was mine, and he was everything I wanted.

Had I made it clear enough that I was serious? I knew I had kept things casual to keep him from freaking out and to help me deal with the idea of serious commitment. I didn't know what I would do in a real relationship if that's where we were going.
