Chapter Thirteen

"Easy now, easy..."

Jett tried to tell himself over and over to relax as his vision blurred. He could barely make out the buildings in front of him, let alone think of what he was supposed to do. He had a task, a job ahead- but none of it seemed to matter now.

His grip was slipping.

He had always been one to try to surpress his spirit-side. In fact, while most of those lucky enough to be born as a werewolf- or even better, an Alpha like Tamsen- enjoyed the raw freedom that an animal form gave, he hated the little bastard he was forever bound to.

He'd learned early on that with enough practice, the curse could be kept at bay. With enough knowledge of runes, one could lock themselves in human form, at the turmoil of the other soul.

Constant urges, ticks, and uncontrollable outburts had long ago been stamped out into nothing but a cold, emotionless exterior.

But Abbie had changed all that.

He was breaking.

He ducked into an alley as his knees gave way beneath him.

Just out of sight, just in time.

The first sign of his transformation manifested in subtle tremors coursing through his frame, a quivering sensation that rippled beneath his skin like an untamed tempest longing to break free from its confines. His hands, once steady, now convulsed involuntarily, fingers elongating into darkened talons.

He stripped his jacket, hearing the soft clang of the blades within. He tried to stuff it somewhere hidden- behind a stack of worn wooden crates- rushing to stash it before he no longer had the blessing of opposible thumbs.

With a guttural cry that echoed through the hushed night, Jett's form contorted and shifted, bones and sinew reshaping themselves in a cataclysmic upheaval. Feathers sprouted from his skin, black as midnight yet iridescent in the moon's ethereal glow. His flesh melded and twisted, birthing wings that unfurled with an ominous grace.

His face contorted, elongating into a sharp, beak-like visage, a fusion of human and raven features that held an unsettling allure. Eyes that once held a predatory confidence now gleamed with an otherworldly intensity, twin orbs of onyx that seemed to peer into the depths of one's soul.

The air crackled with energy as Jett, now a magnificent raven, took flight with a haunting caw that echoed through the night.
