Creative Projects at Home

Students and parents can work together on many different creative projects. The creative process is spiritual, and catechists should be sensitive to the efforts of children and young people when they explore their spirituality and express it in artistic projects that are special to them. These are not just busy activities added to keep classes interesting. The exploration of the mystery of God can be in painting, drawing, music, dance, or writing. We should try to arrange creative activities at home and in the classroom as part of a diverse curriculum. Parents can be interested observers, affirming their child’s efforts, or they can participate with their children in a spiritually creative reflection.

In addition to painting or drawing, students of all ages will work on posters or dioramas. Some students have a talent for writing songs, poems, or fiction. Suggest that parents and students write letters to each other or to soldiers who are serving overseas. College students who are away at school also like to get letters. Some classes along with their parents will want to write a play or produce a class newspaper. Some youngsters are very talented and should channel their gifts toward their faith and spirituality.
