From âmade in Taiwanâ to âmade by Taiwanâ: offshore production and outsourcing of ICT industry and their impacts on domestic economy
The low profit margin of OEM in foundry manufacturing led to a continued search for cost-cutting measures that culminated in the migration of the low end of Taiwanâs high-tech sector to China. Hence, there is a significant trend for Taiwanese high-tech industries, especially ICT, to engage in offshore production in search of cost advantages in China. The rapid growth of offshore production and outsourcing in the ICT industry is shown in Figure 6.3.
