Working At a Tech Lead Company

Working at a tech company feels different. And no small part of that is due to how they are led. In the next two chapters, we’re going to look beyond the beanbags, lattes, and ping-pong tables and get into what working at a tech lead company looks and feels like through the eyes of someone doing the work.

In this chapter we’re going to focus on some different ways tech companies lead, as well as some of the management practices we don’t typically see in the enterprise. Then in the next chapter on productivity, we’ll shift gears and look at some of the concrete things tech companies invest in to go even faster.

The goal of these next two chapters is awareness. I want you to get a sense about what working at one of these tech companies feels like—not so you can blindly copy, but more so you can see how they are led, the type of culture they try to create, and why people enjoy working there so much.
