My eyes lingered on the crestfallen expression on Alessandra’s face as I walked off the dance floor. We’d been so close. So close to her saying yes. To me, finally getting to feel her. I adjusted my aching cock as I headed up the stairs. Anger pumping through my veins.

I hated being pulled away from her to deal with this bullshit. I wanted to spend time with my wife. Talk to her. Touch her. Hear her laugh. See her smile.

She’d lit up tonight. She was relaxed. Carefree. Happier than I’d ever seen her. I wanted her like this every day. And I’d do anything to make it happen.

But her safety had to come first. I pulled my gaze from her blue doe eyes, connecting with harsh green ones instead. The crowd not daring to approach him as he leaned against the bar, drink in hand. It was as if they could sense the predator in their presence. I tipped my chin at Matteo to follow as I headed up the stairs.

I seethed as I controlled my pace. Matteo fucking Gallo was in my club the same night as Alessandra. That didn’t happen by chance. He was here for a reason, and I was going to find out what.

I walked to the small bar in my office, pouring myself a glass of whiskey; Matteo nodded as I held up the amber liquid. I added a shot to another glass before handing one to him. For a moment, we sipped our drinks, staring. Waiting for the other to break the silence. I didn’t have time for this bullshit. I had a beautiful wife to get back to.

“Matteo, what do I owe the pleasure?” My glass clinked on my desk as I set it down.

I kept my posture casual as I leaned against the wood, watching him wander around my office. He sipped his drink as he took in my space. There wasn’t much here to see. No personal items or business information he could use against us.

“I was enjoying a night out until your guard here pulled me aside.” He shrugged as he walked to the wall of windows that overlooked the club.

I crossed my arms over my chest, not wanting to reveal how his presence was digging under my skin. Making me itchy for a fight. “I’m surprised you still want to frequent Luminescence.”

“Because of your wedding?” One side of his mouth tipped into a smirk, the other unable to move due to nerve damage. Like Angelo, it added to his sinister image. “I must say I was surprised when I found out you’d agreed to an arranged marriage. I thought you had a thing about unwilling girls.”

My teeth ground together as I stopped myself from launching at him. His insult hit closer to home than I would like. My own thoughts often echoing them.

She was too young for me. Too innocent. And I hadn’t given her a choice. But it wasn’t the same. I treated her well. She’d have a better life with me than someone like him.
