On the server side, backend information is stored in a Mongo DB located in the AWS Cloud. Then analytical programs are run every 10 minutes to compute new average and record high values. A backup copy of the database is maintained on the Cloud servers.

Using this data, the team was able to analyze pollution patterns, locations, and times of day when the air quality is worst. A sample weekly pollution pattern is shown in Fig. 8.7. Similar battles of local residents against big corporations have been fought in many developed nations in the past, but their communities had the funding and an established legal system. It is the first time that a grass root effort led by local residents won with the help of Cloud Computing, to gather 24 × 7 data from 13 different sensors and analyzed it using advanced machine learning techniques, to pinpoint a single local offender.
