PART III

PRINCIPLES OF MACHINE LEARNING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MACHINES

Part III features two chapters on the principles of machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and artificial intelligence (AI). We study both supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms, and we examine artificial neural networks (ANN) for DL applications. In addition, we study AI machines, smart robots, neuromorphic processors, brain-like computers, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). In particular, we present Google’s X Lab projects, Brain Project, and DeepMind programs. We assess the recent progress of IBM SyNapse, Deep Blue, Watson, and cognitive initiatives, as well as China’s Cambricon neural chips. Chapters 6 and 7 set up the necessary background on ML, DL, and AI machines for the cloud application chapters in Part IV.
