Chapter 20

As soon as I pull into a parking spot outside my apartment, I dig my cell phone out of my purse. It vibrated a couple of times while I was driving, reminding me that I haven’t checked it since I called Chloe earlier. I have one voicemail, which I know is from when Ned called earlier, and the two texts that recently came through.

The first text is from Justin and the second is from the number I recognize as Ned’s. I make a mental note to find the owner’s manual for my phone one of these days to see if I can block his calls and texts. For now, I’ll just delete and ignore. I open Ned’s message and immediately press the key to delete without reading a single word. I can’t help but notice a few words in all caps, but I couldn’t care less what they say. Next, I click on Justin’s message.

Justin: I hope your first day on the job went well! Ready to plan our next date?
