Chapter 6

Xander

Xander had lifted a sleeping Pip out of the car and into the cottage, Pip only waking up after Xander carefully placed him down on the couch.

‘Is it late?’ Pip said, slowly opening his eyes.

‘Pretty late for a young man like you,’ Xander replied. ‘It turns out my quicker route was actually snowed in even worse. I managed to find a third way, but as far as my navigation goes, I’d only give myself a C+ this time.’

‘Well I’d give you an A+,’ Pip replied. ‘I slept so well. Maybe it was the spanking that helped. But I think it was your driving that was the main part.’

‘I think it might well have been a little bit of both,’ Xander said, sitting down next to Pip on the cozy couch. ‘Was everything okay with the spanking? You seemed fine afterward, but I wanted to check in and make double-sure.’

‘It was more than fine,’ Pip said. ‘I needed that. And you were perfect before, during, and after.’

‘I’ve never used snow as a cooling aid before,’ Xander said, wrapping his arm around Pip. ‘That was certainly a new one for me.’

‘Same, but it was kinda hot,’ Pip giggled. ‘Well, it was super-cold, but you know what I mean.’

The two of them laughed together.

Xander looked at the old log burner on the wall in front of them.

‘How about you change into your jammies, and I’ll get this fire going?’ Xander said. ‘I’ll read you a bedtime story in front of the fire and that’ll get you nice and toasty before it’s time to hit the hay.’

‘Awesome!’ Pip said, clearly excited by the prospect. ‘And can my stuffie Tao come too?’

‘Hey, I’d be offended if your favorite stuffie wasn’t here to hear me read,’ Xander chuckled, his triceps flexing as he hauled himself up off the couch and then down onto he floor so he could light the log burner.

As Pip hopped off the couch and scurried to the bedroom to change into his pajamas, Xander set about getting the fire going.

Xander thought back to his childhood and how much he would enjoy sitting in front of the fire with his mom and pop. The three of them together would watch TV, read, or simply sit and talk. With the fire ablaze, Xander always felt like he was in the best place in the world. And now the opportunity to make a fire and give Pip that same feeling was too good to miss.

Pip’s got everything I need.

Cute, smart, and plenty of attitude too.

I don’t know how it could work in the long run, but I’m living for the holidays right now…

Xander arranged the thick, well-cut logs and made sure that the supply of kindling and firelighters were perfectly positioned too. Xander had learned from his mom and pop, and it felt great to use his knowledge.

Back in the city, Xander’s super-sleek and modern penthouse was so well insulated that he never needed a fire. And with underfloor heating too, there was simply no need for anything like a log burner.
