Chapter 7

After Jasper placed our breakfast order this morning, he had woken me back up with a long, leisurely kiss before pulling me into the shower and spending almost an hour getting both of us clean. He massaged my scalp and rubbed every aching muscle, but refused to let me reciprocate, stating simply that pampering was his job. By the time we emerge, breakfast was on the doorstep, and we devour it as if we hadn’t eaten in days.

The late morning and early afternoon go by in a blur of Hallmark movies, snacks, and making out on the couch until I force myself up to get ready to go to Abby’s.

“I’m leaving in fifteen minutes, with or without you,” I say to Jasper from the threshold of my bedroom. He’s on the couch in only gray sweatpants, watching the end of a cheesy Christmas movie, fully immersed in the drama.

“It’s almost over,” he calls, not turning to look at me. “I just want to see how it ends.”

“They will get back together and live happily ever after, obviously,” I state flatly, turning to head back into the bathroom to fix my hair. Not that the effort will matter after I smash it down with my helmet.

Appearing in the doorway, Jasper says, “Snarky, as always. Can’t even let me enjoy the ending of a movie.”

“It was the third one we watched today, and they all end the same way. Were you waiting for a twist?” I ask, rolling my eyes.

“Keep rolling your eyes at me, Maxy, and you’ll be missing your family Christmas this year.” His hands grasp my hips, and I watch him take in the sight of my ass in my favorite jeans through the reflection in the mirror.

I spin, my face inches from his, and his dark hooded eyes meet my slate ones. “We’re going. And now it’s ten minutes.”

Forcing him to release me, I walk out of the bathroom, strolling through my apartment to the kitchen to pull the fresh mulled apple cider out of the fridge. I put the glass bottle in a backpack for the ride over, but don’t bother bringing rum to add to it, since I know Abby’s fiance, Kolson, will have the right kind.

I’m just about to call out to Jasper when he comes out of the bedroom wearing dark jeans and a black button-down with the sleeves rolled up his forearms. Of course he looks perfect after getting ready in five minutes.

“Ready to go?” he asks me with a smirk, as if he had been waiting for me.

Shaking my head, I catch myself just as I’m about to roll my eyes. Jasper raises his eyebrow in challenge, and I exhale heavily, grabbing my backpack. He takes it from me as he passes me, stopping by the front door to slip on his boots.

My jeans, navy t-shirt, and black slip-on Vans suddenly feel way too casual as I let my eyes wander his body, but then he pulls on his jacket, the Mori MC logo on the back.
