Drinks were a mistake, I could tell. As Bambi knocked back her margaritas, she got more and more handsy. I could see by the look on Bart's face that she had her hands working under the table as much as on top.

Max seemed to be under some kind of spell, too. I knew he was attracted to the red-haired bimbo, but it was also that aura of absolute sensuality that was making him sweat. The more I drank, the angrier I got and more than once, I tried to catch Max's eyes so he would get the hint that it was time to leave.

Finally, after Bambi nuzzled Bart's neck, her arm working furiously under the table, the server came up.

"Would you like the check?" he asked and didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert.

Bambi stopped sucking on Bart's neck long enough to reply.

"Ooh! What about dessert?"

"Maybe to go?" The server looked at Max and me.

"That sounds good," Max said. "How about four double chocolate brownies?"

That was too much food and too expensive, but I knew that Max had finally gotten the message. He was trying to get us out of the restaurant.

"Ooh! Good choice, Maxie!" Bambi gushed, and I felt like I was going to vomit. Sucking on Bart was one thing, but flirting with Max was just too much.

We got our desserts quickly and, when the bill came, Bambi grabbed it, and her eyes widened.

"Wow, three hundred dollars?" she cried. "That's expensive, babe!"

"You're worth it," Bart said and reached to get out his wallet.

"You better believe it," Bambi said in a low purr that made my insides writhe and twist.

I looked down at our bill. It was only two hundred, but it was by far the most expensive dinner Max had ever paid for.

"Babe, are you sure?" I asked. "I could go half."

"You're worth it," Max grinned, and I had to laugh.

"Oh, you better believe it!" I said sarcastically, hoping that Bart and Bambi might notice, but they were already kissing again. "Jesus! Let's get out of here."

We walked out into the cool evening. Bambi clung to Bart's arm, giggling like a little girl.

"So, Bambi?" I asked. "Can we take you to your car?"

Bambi laughed.

"Oh, Honey, I don't have one!"

"You don't have a car?"

"Don't need one," she grinned. "Public transportation is great in this town?"

Bart had ridden with us to the restaurant, and an icy feeling suddenly filled my chest. If Bambi didn't have a car, then that meant she would have to come back to our place. If she came back to our place, then that meant I was going to have to endure a lot more than her sucking on Bart's face.

"A bus stop then?" I said hopefully, and Bart laughed.

"Knock it off, Kat," Bart said. "She's coming back to our place."

I looked at Max for help, and he just shrugged. It was Bart's apartment, too.

There was nothing I could do. Max and I took the front seat, and Bambi and Bart piled in the back.

We started home and Bambi's giggles tapered off, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
