During a focus group conversation, Nicole also described how resistant White students could have turned the Sister Stories counterspace into an unsafe place. When asked what Sister Stories would have been like with resistant White students, Regina replied their presence would have:

Ruined it. [silence] Completely ruined it. . . . It would have definitely changed the outcome of my class experience. There definitely would have been censorship because I’m not going to express the way I feel and what I’ve been through if I feel like it’s not going to be received. So, it would have changed my class experience. [I’m not sure if] everyone should take the class, because, like I said, there’s some people who can’t be helped, and who won’t understand, and who don’t want to understand—people who are stuck.
