Callie
Three Days Later
Sweat poured down my forehead as I spun, roundhouse kicking the demon looking creature in front of me.
The heel of my boot kicked him hard in the stomach, and he stumbled back a few feet. I crouched down, and using my leg strength and some magic, I launched myself into the air, kicking him hard in the head. He fell to the ground, catching himself with one hand. He snarled at me as he rubbed the side of his face, his fingers now covered in black gooey blood. It ran from his ears and nose.
He was the same size as a human, but his skin was midnight black and crispy like fried chicken. He was bald with two short horns coming out of the top of his head. He wore a long black trench coat, a black shirt, black jeans, and combat boots. Around his neck was a necklace with some sort of demonic emblem on it.
"You know, trench coats went out of style in the 90s. You seriously need a wardrobe update. Though, I'm assuming none of that really matters where you're from."
His thin black lips twitched, and I could see the edges of his spiky teeth. "Oh yeah? And where is that?"
I laughed, shaking my head. "Hell, I'm assuming, or my ninth-grade yearbook. The only thing you're missing is blonde tips on your hair, but then again, you don't have any hair. I guess that makes maintenance easy."
He hissed at me, and I punched him hard in the throat. He grabbed his neck and coughed, stumbling back.
"Callie, what did I tell you about playing with your enemies? We don't have all day."
Lapis stood in the magical arena he had created for me, leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. I liked the one he had created that day, it wasn't all sunshine and fields and trees like the others. It looked like some sort of basement of a Gothic castle. He reached into his belt and grabbed his dagger, tossing it to me. I grabbed it by the handle and walked over nonchalantly, putting my boot on the creature's chest. "I guess I can't play anymore."
With that, I stabbed the blade into his chest. He screeched and groaned as the dark blood rushed out of him. As the last breath left his body, his corpse turned to dust. I looked over at Lapis, reaching down to pick up his dagger. "At least it's easy cleanup."
He waved his hand in the air and the magical arena disappeared, leaving us back in his cottage. He took the dagger from me and stuck it in his waistband. "Sit down for a second."
I knew it was coming. After finding out about Shade and Willa, I cut them out of my training. Lapis was doing everything for me, preparing me for the trip. He wasn't as angry as he came off the first couple of times. In fact, he had kind of a squishy side to him, one that he didn't let me see a very often.
