Moments later, Ray lay on his back, a smile of contentment on his face. “Well, that was unexpected,” he said. He was sweating and his underwear was a mess. He was looking up at the big, bearded, hairy-chested man sitting on top of him, who was currently wiping sweat off his forehead.

With a laugh, Barry ran his hands over Ray’s damp skin and gazed at him with adoration. “Did that help, sir?”

Ray returned a smile as he ran his hands up and down his man’s legs. “Sure did. Can’t wait to do that without this on.” He gave a quick tug at the fabric of his Big Bear’s purple briefs.

Barry chuckled and let himself fall beside him with a happy groan. “Oh, so you didn’t like it? Should I not do it again?”

“I did not say that.” He gave him a wicked smile. “The way you circle those hips. My god! Someone tell Shakira there’s this big burly man in White Harbor, Oregon, that can give her a run for her money.”

A big grin formed on Barry’s sweaty face. He blushed bright red and let out a giggle of pure joy.

The brisk sound of his laughter made Ray’s heart swell. “You sure you don’t want me to return the favor?” he said, running a finger over the outline that bulged from under Barry’s boxer briefs.

Barry took his hand with gentle fingers and brought it up to his lips. Kissed it. “Not yet. Soon. This was a bigger step for me than I thought I could take. Watching you enjoy it was all I needed.” He looked at him with those clear blue eyes of his. “This is heading somewhere. You have my word.” Barry rested his head on his chest. “I know I’m being selfish, asking you to wait.”

Ray ran a tender hand through his hair. “We’re in this together, alright? I get it. I know how that square brain of yours works. It’s part of your annoying-yet-adorable charm. When I agreed to start this, I knew it wouldn’t be a quick turnaround.” He thought if the right way to phrase his thoughts. “That said… fourteen months. You say this is heading somewhere. Can I at least ask where?”

His boyfriend put his arms around him—and yes, Ray thought, he was his boyfriend—curled up into a ball, and pressed his head against Ray’s chest, tucking it under his chin. A curious picture, considering how much bulkier he was. It felt right, though. This was where he belonged.

Ray hugged him back and kissed the top of his head.

“You know how, even after we finished school, I always told you The Pines were my safe place?” Barry said.

“Yes?”

“The truth is, for years now, the only place I truly feel safe is where you are.”

Ray planted another long kiss on the top of his head.

Barry hugged him tighter, tucking his head further under his chin, as if letting go of him was an impossible undertaking. “I’m divorcing Maryann.” His voice sounded more determined than ever.
