Prediction by Classification

Let’s start with a simple binary classification example where the AI has just two choices. Many of us now use biometrics to logon to our laptops and phones. When you present your thumb to your device, the classifier can either correctly identify you or fail to do so. What about if someone else picks up your device and tries to access it? Does the classifier correctly identify the attempted intrusion and block access? So, we have two separate metrics to consider: the number of times a person who should have access is granted access and the number of times a person who should not have access is blocked. In this case, we can have a simple definition of accuracy as the percentage of times the classifier correctly identifies the user as valid or not, out of the total attempts.
