The rock was still there. Amid the blackened and dead landscape left in the wake of his city-ending disaster attack, the green-red rock remained. However, even its seeming indestructibility had its limits. A hairline fracture ran down the center of the stone, right at the point where Morgan’s attack had slammed into it. Even as they watched, the crack began to widen.

The air above the stone warped even further, and the vile, corrosive energy he’d felt from it before spiked to new levels. His senses screamed at him that something was terribly wrong, but from what he could see, all that was happening was that a rock was cracking.

“Get ready for a fight,” Morgan said as he and Lumia watched the crack on the stone grow wider.

“But Gold told me not to interfere unless…” she trailed off, leaving the statement hanging.

“I know what he said,” Morgan said. “I have a pretty strong feeling that I’m going to need you for this fight, even if this rock is sending us confusing signals.”

On the one hand, his senses told him this rock was completely ordinary. On the other, they were screaming danger. Generally speaking, when he received mixed signals like this, someone was trying to deceive him. It was either to downplay the level of danger he was really in or to try making him think something was a bigger threat.

He generally tended to believe the former, as no one was stupid enough to try intimidating him with nothing to back it up.

Morgan descended slowly from the sky until he was hovering some fifty feet above the cracking stone. His Aura Sense had no idea what was going on, so he didn’t bother relying on it. Instead, he remained where he was, allowing his RP to regenerate and watching the cracks spreading along the stone.

At first, it had been a single thin crack, but slowly, they were growing larger, spreading further across the stone.

“Any theories as to what’s going to come out?” Lumia asked.

“None,” Morgan replied.

Lumia was currently at rank 57, two lower than him, so he was fairly confident that with her help, he could handle almost anything within this beast zone.

The cracks finally stopped with a final series of loud pops and snaps, and for a moment, nothing happened. Then the rock disintegrated into dust, leaving behind a warped crack in space. Morgan’s eyebrows shot up. Of all the things he’d been expecting, a spatial rift had not been one of them.

He wondered if there was a way to close it just as a paw the size of his entire chest poked through. It was covered in blueish fur, speckled with spots of black in a floral pattern he felt he’d seen before but couldn’t quite place.

A head appeared next, feline eyes shining green in the gloom of the spatial rift. The cat pulled itself through, fur seeming to shine in the evening light and slitted pupils flicking around its new surroundings.

The creature was some eight feet at the shoulder and nearly twenty long.
