“Where the hell are you?” Stanzo demanded as soon as his cousin answered his cell phone. He was pacing back and forth across his office, furious about the call he’d just received.

“I just finished with the group that you asked me to chat with. Their payment should be made within the next few minutes.”

“Why the hell haven’t you answered my calls?”

“Because I was working,” Bono replied, angry now. “And you know I don’t like to be interrupted when I’m working.”

Stanzo sighed, rubbing his face. “Get out of town!” he growled.

“Why the hell would I do that?”

“Because there are cameras all over the place!”

“You said that the police cameras were under your control. What’s changed in the last twenty-four hours?”

“They were!” he growled, his frustration rising as his idiot cousin continued to ask stupid questions. “They are! Which is why I know that…”

Even as he explained, he watched another one of his guys pull a shop owner out of the man’s building and punch him in the stomach. If he was watching this, then the police were as well. And whoever was watching the police was seeing everything too! Someone had hacked into the police cameras! The cameras that he’d previously set on a loop to avoid anyone actually seeing what was going on within the city!

A second later, a police car came screaming to a halt in front of the building. Thankfully, his guy realized what was happening and dumped the shop owner. Unfortunately, there were two police officers in that cruiser. One of them went over to the shop owner, apparently radioing in for an ambulance. But the other officer chased after his guy.

The chase went off camera, which meant that Stanzo had no idea what was going on. Muttering more expletives, he pounded his fist onto his pristine desk, then muttered more curses when he realized that he’d not only broken his phone, but he’d probably broken his hand as well, if the intense throbbing was any indication.

Bono listened to the terror in his cousin’s voice and suddenly lost a great deal of respect for the man. Still, Stanzo had great instincts. Looking around, he thought about what Stanzo had said about the cameras. Somehow, Stanzo had hacked into the police cameras and paid off several of the police officers who monitor the streets via those cameras. For the past several weeks, he and the others on his cousin’s team had felt invisible because of Stanzo’s manipulations. Now, however, if someone else had hacked into the hacked video feeds…no one was safe.

Turning his car around, he started cruising in the opposite direction. Not driving fast, but not too slow either. Just fast enough to look as if he were looking for a new address. This pace allowed him to peruse the others walking on the sidewalks. The woman he’d been assigned to watch out for wasn’t in the deli, nor did it look as if anyone was in the upstairs apartment. Damn her, where had she gone? Had
