chapter 59
Seeing is believing.
âNever mind. Take your shot!â The insolent, dictatorial boom was back and Cee-U felt the hot fetid breath waft out of the window. It made him want to be sick.
Little Boy confidently bounces up to the table and without even taking time to line up a shot, he smashes the cue into a small group of low numbered atoms who were trying to take refuge near one of the corner pockets. Every thing after this was simply unfortunate. Unfortunate for Number 3, a tiny red ball who was blubbering and cowering behind Number 7, he felt the full force of the stick and is cannoned of the side cushion, flies high in the air and unfortunately thumps the dirty old bar-keep in the side of his shell with a dense and nasty thoink. It was unfortunate for the irascible bar-keep as he rips of his filthy apron and dips down to retrieve the impudent little red Number 3 who is rolling around whimpering in pain but unfortunately the bar-keepâs thick syrupy eyes arenât what they used to be and he slips over as the tiny red ball races around under the bar. And unfortunately, once the bar-keep loses his stability he tumbles and snags a hold of his slimy apron which the string unfortunately coils up and over one of the taps. Unfortunately the tap opens and starts to dribble out a thick stream of glowing goo. Unfortunate too were the crowd of shocked onlookers who saw an opportunity for a free drink and clamber and climb over one another to get to the open tap, snagged by the apron string, thrown by the toppling bar-keep, tripped by the frightened little red painted atom and ultimately caused by the thin Uranium atom who was watching from over at the table. And the unfortunately for the gaggle of hideous thirsty atoms the stream of free goo was Polonium 210 and the resultant calamity as they clambered and climbed was the excitation of the air which vaporised the goo into a blue glow. An all of these unfortunate singular, yet intertwined events, caused damage of a scale that cannot be defined. Eyes bulged and popped from their sockets, some shells blistered and boiled away while others simply burst into flames rich in colours of a dirty rainbow. Electron strings dissolved in an instant sending electrons hurtling off in all directions, smashing furniture, light fittings and even blowing holes through the walls. Atoms screamed and writhed on the floor which, either unable to take to huge weight or from half-lives upon half-lives of neglect, or a combination of both, simply gives way and the screaming, writhing electron-less atoms plummet through the hole and simply ceased to exist.
âHappy?â Fat Man chortles toward the thin, chrome coloured upside-down cone who was simply staring at the remaining dripping, drooling carnage and the massive hole in the ground with a look Cee-U could best describe as utter bewilderment.
âUmmâ¦â Was all the slightly embarrassed chrome coloured atom can muster.
